MagiQuest: Forgotten Realms Mac OS

Mac game publisher MacPlay today announced that its conversion of Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn has reached gold master status. The new Mac game will be available from major Mac software retailers in early September, and yes, it ships out of the box with Mac OS X compatibility.

Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn was originally developed for the PC by BioWare and released by Interplay’s Black Isle Studios brand. The Macintosh version was created by MumboJumbo. The game is a sequel to a title released for the Mac by GraphSim Entertainment, continuing the Baldur’s Gate storyline. The Forgotten Realms adventure game follows the rules put forth by the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role playing system.

MacCentral stopped by the offices of MumboJumbo to take a look at Baldur’s Gate II this past May. Originally expected to be released at last month’s Macworld Expo in New York, Baldur’s Gate II’s release was delayed in order to incorporate compatibility for Mac OS X.

MacPlay’s new president, Mark Cottam, said that his company is pleased to bring the title to the Mac. “Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the first of many key product releases scheduled over the next 4 months for MacPlay and illustrates our ongoing commitment to Apple and its loyal gaming community,” said Cottam.
